Mateo: DVD Review

mateo

Arriving on DVD this week is the documentary “Mateo” which centers on scrawny, strawberry blond Mathew “Mateo” Stoneman, who has been labeled “America’s first gringo mariachi singer”.

“Mateo” is a thoroughly enjoyable film in which we learn about Mathew’s struggles to finish an album that he has worked on for years. The former criminal turned musician learned to sing in Spanish while incarcerated and he happens to have an absolutely beautiful voice. While living in California Mathew sings in Latin eateries and books parties in order to raise money for his album. He also travels to Cuba when he can to locate a woman why might have fathered a child with as well as visit friends.

Those who love documentaries about music will most certainly enjoy “Mateo”
