Metamorphosis/ Beyond Darkness (Double Feature): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on Blu-ray is the Italian horror double feature “Metamorphosis” (1989) and “Beyond Darkness” (1990), courtesy of Scream Factory. This release is the perfect example of what you need for a “bad movie night” as they are both terrible on almost every level. I mean this in the best way possible. These are the type of bad movies that you can have quite a bit of fun with when you are joined by friends who can appreciate them. Both films on this blu-ray star Gene LeBrock and his terrible acting fits in well since nobody else on screen seems to know how to act either.
“Metamorphosis” is centered on Dr. Peter Houseman (Lebrock), who is forced to test an anti-aging serum on himself when his funding is threatened. The serum however delivers unexpected results an Peter begins to transform into a murderous monster.
“Beyond Darkness” centers on Father Peter (Lebrock) and his family and their new house. Unfortunately their prefect home isn’t so perfect . A witch was burned at the stake in that very same location many years earlier. Father Peter must protect his family and fight off the evil that has been awakened.
“Metamorphosis” was directed by George Eastman and “Beyond Darkness” was directed by Claudio Fragasso (Troll 2), so you know it’s that very special kind of awful. Fans of insane Italian horror may want to grab this release.
