Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review

“IT’S GARBAGE DAY!”  That just happens to be one of the two most quotable lines in the entire “Silent Night, Deadly Night” franchise. The other one would of course be “PUNNISH”. Out now on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray is Lee Harry’s 1987 sequel, “Silent Night, Deadly Night Part II”.  This was never a good horror series, but the first film grabbed plenty of media attention back in 1984 over parent’s outrage over a killer dressed as Santa Clause. It was all over the news, so of course horror fans wanted to see it for themselves and it is now a cult classic.

If you are a fan of “Silent Night, Deadly Night”, you are sure to enjoy at least a 3rd of Part 2.  That is because 25 of the 88-minute run-time consist of footage from the first movie. The first half houris simply an interview between a doctor and Ricky Caldwell (younger brother of the first film’s killer). During the interview we are taken through many scenes from the previous film.

What makes“Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2” entertaining is the bonkers performance from Eric Freeman who plays Ricky Caldwell.  His line delivery turns this would-be horror film into a dark-comedy. Ricky’s gun rampage is easily the best moment out of all the “Silent Night” films. That is of course the “Garbage Day” sequence. Again, I don’t have much good to say about Part 2, other than that the filmmakers did the best they could with the limited budget, which forced them to get creative with old footage. Thankfully they were able to find Freeman and deliver something just weird enough to entertain.

Fans of this one will be pleased with the bonus features. Aside from the new 2K scan, there are interviews with director Lee Harry, star Eric Freeman and others. We also get a tour of the different filming locations. If you are a fan and own Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition of the first film, you will definitely want to ad Part 2 to your collection.
