Slugs (Special Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray this week is the Special Edition release of 1988’s “Slugs”, courtesy of Arrow Video. If you have never seen this American/Spanish flick about flesh-eating slugs, you don’t know what you are missing.
Directed by Juan Piquer Simón (“Pieces”), “Slugs” is set in a rural community where there larger-than-normal slimy creatures begin to invade homes and kill the residents. The slugs have been nesting in the sewers and coming up through the water system. The explanation for these killer slugs is of course, toxic waste. It is the 80’s after all.
Based on the novel by Shaun Huston, “Slugs” is a fun, yet, cheesy creature feature that has a nice helping of gore. The acting is as bad as one can expect in a killer slug movie, but that doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable blast from the past.
