The Dead Room: Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is Jason Stutter’s New Zealand horror film “The Dead Room”, which stars Jed Brophy and Jeffery Thomas (“The Hobbit” trilogy). Joining them is Laura Petersen making her sophomore feature film appearance.  Inspired by a 1970’s urban legend, “The Dead Room” has a very familiar setup. A small group head to a remote cabin/farmhouse to investigate the paranormal.  Scott (Thomas) is the lead researcher, Liam (Brophy) is more of the tech guy and Holly (Petersen) is the young psychic.

“The Dead Room” clocks in at a brisk 78 minutes and moves along pretty quickly.  Although it lacks originality, it more than makes up for in direction.  Stutter is able to create a solid and at times freaky horror film with a very little budget. The whole thing takes placed within a couple of rooms and a hallway. The further along we get in the story, the more tension builds.  Stutter definitely has a knack for the genre and I would love to see what he can come up with next.
