The Lawnmower Man (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is the 1992 sci-fi thriller, “The Lawnmower Man”. At the time of its’ release the computer effects created for the film were quite impressive. This was the year between “Terminator 2” and “Jurassic Park”, so CGI wasn’t really a big part of filmmaking at this point. The film is also “very loosely” based on of Stephen King’s short story of the same name.
This is the first time “The Lawnmower Man” will be available on Blu-ray in the United States. Fans of the film will be pleased to know that this 2-disk release includes 4k restorations of the theatrical and director’s cut. Personally I prefer the theatrical cut as the director’s cut run’s way too long and the addition scenes just don’t feel necessary.
There are a decent number of bonus features, but it’s the “Cybergod: Creating The Lawnmower Man” that is the stand out feature. I was never a big fan of the film, though I do like Jeff Fahey as Jobe. If I had one wish, it’s that this released included “Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace”. Yeah, it’s bad but for some reason, I kind of dug it.
