The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One – Blu-Ray Review

Arriving this week on Blu-ray and DVD is the impressive indie-sci-fi action flick, “The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One”, written and directed by Shane Abbess.   My main issue with low budget science fiction in recent years is the terrible CGI used due to budget constraints, just look at most of the SyFy channel movies.  That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do science fiction on the cheap.  In 2010 The Brothers Strause gave us “Skyline”. Yes, the movie sucked, but the visual effects were top notch.  It helped that the filmmakers were experienced special effects artists who worked on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.  Although the writing in “The Osiris Child” Is merely adequate, Abbess makes up for it in direction and fun.

Set sometime in the distant future, humans are now colonizing other planets.  When Lieutenant Kane Sommerville (Daniel MacPherson) and his daughter Indi (Teagan Croft) are separated during a planetary threat, he sets out to find her.  With the help of mysterious drifter Sy Lombok (Kellan Lutz) they set out to rescue the young girl.  Along the way we learn more about Sy as well as the dangers that await them.

While watching “The Osiris Child” felt like I was watching pieces of different science fiction films that I enjoyed over the years.  It’s not great, but it’s definitely enjoyable enough.  I am not sure if there will be a “Volume Two” but if there is, I very much would like to see what happens next.
