The Poison Ivy Collection: Blu-Ray Review
I am not quite sure how the acclaimed 1992 erotic thriller, “Poison Ivy” became a four-film series. The original, which starred Drew Barrymore was a modest success upon it’s theatrical release and has gone on to gain status as a cult film. It was also the film that allowed Barrymore to break away from her good girl image. I have always dug “Poison Ivy” and even find “Poison Ivy 2: Lilly” to be entertainingly trashy, though the latter sequels offer very little.
In all honesty, I never expected to see this series get an HD collection release, but Shout Factory has done it. Available now is “The Poison Ivy Collection”. The first three films include both R-rated and unrated versions (with SD inserts) and the original film includes a new audio commentary with director Katt Shea. There isn’t anything else in the way of bonus content but aside from trailers, however the transfers for the first two films looks quite good. I haven’t gotten around to the final two disks yet. This is the first ever Blu-ray release of the series, with-the-exception-of the fourth entry, “The Secret Society”. If you are a fan of “Poison Ivy” and its’ sequels now’s your chance to own them in HD.
